Week One - Adjusting to homelessness.

19 May - The big adventure begins.

After a hectic week of packing up and cleaning our house to get it ready for renting, finalising all the finishing touches and packing up to the prado, dealing with jet lag and exhaustion from a wicked Central America Trip...we are finally off.  First stop Yeppoon.

We spent three nights in Yeppoon catching up with family and getting a few last bib and bobs for the trip, and now we're ready to hit the road again.

Goodbye Taylor/Pratt residence.

22 May -Yeppoon to Cape Hillsborough.

Yippee we're ready for our big adventure.

So we set off to find the awesome beach where Tim had camped with Mug and the 2008 Cape York crew. "It's a sick beach with heaps of Salmon and trees for the hammocks, pretty sure it's 'Seaforth' " he says. Haha after searching for an hour or so, quite a bit of french, two stubbies later and long after dark we give up and head to the well known Cape Hillsborough". Tim was devastated and started to believe he had imagined the place, or maybe Mug had just given him a few too many beers that trip and the beach was actually 500 kms from where he thought.

Cape Hillsbourgh was lovely, we were camped just a few trees  back from the beach and happy to just kick back and relax.

Tim tried his best to be the 'hunter and gatherer' but unfortunately it didn't happen. Of course Tim blamed it on not finding the right beach and the pro fisherman. "We caught shit loads of Salmon when I was here with Mug, must of been the bloody pro fishermen who had ran the nets through earlier and took all the fish". And yes, it turns out it was their fault because later on they offered us fresh and filleted Salmon.  It was delicious :-).

Another nice thing about Cape Hillsborough was the wildlife. Each morning at dawn all the kangaroos in the area would migrate to the beach.  Not sure why they were there, but it was beautiful to see.

24 May - Cape Hillsbourgh to Mission Beach. (Bingil Bay)

First mission at Mission Beach....get coconuts!!! Should be easy, that trees not too tall.

Hmmm, now what???

Mmm, actually just realised I may be a little scared of heights (and crocs). TIM!!!!

Tim to the rescue!

My hero. Fresh coconut water for breakfast.  I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts, dideleedee!!

Our campsite at Bingil Bay. Looks lovely until the 40 knot winds start blowing :-(

26 May - Day trip from Bingil Bay to Tully Gorge.

Great day and awesome Gorge! After another night of 40 knot winds and rain we pack up early and head for Cairns. "It's the dry season, weather will be perfect up there right????"
